Goldsmith & Lapidary Artist

Mark Nuell is at the forefront of unique gemstone cutting and jewellery design. The art of lapidary or gem cutting & polishing has become a dying craft. Mark not only hand cuts the gems himself, he also sources raw gemstones directly from the mines and integrates them into beautiful jewellery pieces afterwards. The rough precious stones are skilfully cut and polished into one-of-a-kind designs, using his extensive experience and knowledge to accentuate the stones’ natural beauty.

Sustainably sourced rough Australian sapphires, aquamarines and other gemstones, are hand cut by Mark in unique faceted designs. Mark masters the art of lapidary, gemstone cutting and polishing, as well as goldsmithing techniques to set the gems into exquisitely designed jewellery pieces.

Mark has a close and long-standing relationship with sapphire mines in Australia. He inherited his fascination for sapphires from his father, who owned a mine in Rubyvale for nearly 30 years. This inspired Mark to pursue goldsmithing and lapidary. Mark regularly goes back to Queensland to source and hand pick rough sapphires. After which they are hand cut and polished in his London and Devon studio.
