BESPOKE | THE ATELIER

One stone.
One design.
One pair of hands.
Yours.

Every commission begins with a conversation and ends with a stone cut, designed and set for one person, in my studio between London and Devon.

A collection of gemstones and gold rings on a notebook with handwritten notes and sketches.
  • A person is holding a pair of metal tweezers with a green gemstone between the tips, with a blurred background of other gemstones.

    Begin with a stone

Choose from the cut stones Mark has selected, including sapphires from Queensland’s Gemfields, and design the jewel around what you find.

  • Design sketches and notes for creating three jewelry necklaces, featuring sketches, notes about metal and gemstone options, and instructions for assembly.

    Begin with a Conversation

Bring an occasion, a colour, a memory. mark chooses and cuts a ston to answer it, then designs the price aroun what the stone want to be.

the commission

From first conversation to finished jewel.

  • A green gemstone and several other smaller gemstones and gold letter beads on a notebook with handwritten notes.

    Conversation

In my London Atelier, we talk through the occasion, the wearer, the colour and the feel.

  • Two faceted gemstones, one green and one yellow, on a dark surface with a black background.

    The Stone

I select rough or cut stones sourced from independent miners and trusted suppliers, for you to choose from.

  • An older man wearing glasses is working on a jewelry piece with a gold pen, placing small gemstones on a white notebook.

    The Design

The piece is drawn around the gem, and agreed with you before any gold is worked.

  • A craftsman inspecting a gemstone using a metal ruler in a jewelry workshop.

    The Making

The gem is cut freeform, and made at the bench in gold from a single source.

  • A gold ring with a large, irregularly shaped bright green gemstone on a dark background.

    The Handover

Your jewel is handed over with its story: where the stone came from and who made it.

Recent commissions

Made for one person at a time

  • Pebble Cut Peridot Ring Set

    THE BRIEF

My clients were captured by the colour and, of course, the cut and bought the gems from Fuli Gems who had previously commissioned me to cut the rough stones.

    THE STONES

I had cut this incredible pair of peridots from beautiful rough gems for Fuli Gems.

    THE PIECE

We worked on ideas for the custom piece and came up with this ring set in 18ct gold. The organic shapes of the peridots sit so well together and it was a pleasure to see the final piece come to life.

  • Close-up of a layered ring with two large aquamarine gemstones, smaller diamonds, and a mixed-metal band against a dark background.

Bespoke Pebble Cut Aquamarine Ring Set

    THE BRIEF

The client and wanted me to mix their own gold and argyle diamond into the design.

    THE STONE

They chose 2 aquamarines and my signature freeform pebble cut shape

    THE PIECE

The result is a beautiful interchanging ring set giving the wearer multiple options when choosing which gems to wear.

“There are not many gemstone cutters who are also accomplished goldsmiths & this rare combination allows Mark freedom of thought and the ability to avoid being restricted by conventional techniques.”
